OA4801 Spreadsheet Modeling for Military Operations Research

Implementation of a wide variety of military Operations Research topics on software accessible in any typical Department of Defense (Fleet) environment. This course highlights military spreadsheet applications of Operations Research methods (e.g. discrete event simulation, optimization, queuing, Markov chains), discusses limitations, and demonstrates methods to supplement and customize spreadsheet analytical functions.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the conclusions of this course, student learning outcomes include knowing how and being able to:

·       Develop VBA macros to create usable and useful tools in Excel workbooks.

·       Use ranges, logic and loops to automate data processing for use in tools and analytical models.

·       Apply Solver to formulate and solve mathematical programming problems in Excel, both through the built-in graphical user interface and embedded in VBA code.

·       Generate random numbers to execute simulations in Excel.
