OA3102 Statistics

Introduction to data entry, manipulation, descriptive statistics and graphing using statistical software.   Point estimation, method of moments, maximum likelihood, least squares. Confidence intervals, tests of hypotheses for one- and two-sample problems. Goodness of fit and contingency tables, sign tests, Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student should:
• Understand how statistics complements probability
• Be able to effectively summarize and display data
• Understand sampling distributions and the Central Limit Theorem (CLT)
• Be able to derive point estimators and estimates, and know their properties, including the method of moments and maximum likelihood estimation
• Construct and interpret confidence intervals
• Test hypotheses and make power and sample size calculations
• Analyze categorical data
• Test for goodness-of-fit
• Have an introduction to nonparametric approaches, including the bootstrap
