MN4071 Advanced Economic and Defense Policy Analysis

MN4071 is an applied microeconomics course that further augments the economic toolkit of policy analysts to understand the effects of government intervention in the economy. Building on the microeconomic foundations taught in MN3070, MN4071 is a follow-on course providing tools for conducting thoughtful economic public policy analysis.  The goal of the course is for you to be able to evaluate and compare alternative public policies in both DoD and civilian environments using the theoretical and empirical tools of economic analysis.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be able to: 

• correctly describe and critically evaluate theories about the role of government in the economy in an academic setting. 

• demonstrate an understanding of the relevant empirical analysis on the effects of government policies on economic outcomes in an academic setting.

• propose a sound and valid cost benefit analysis, to include a written proposal and presentation, of a real-world policy of the student’s choosing. 

• apply knowledge of theory and empirical analysis to correctly evaluate and critically compare alternative public policies in an academic setting.
