PSYC 217 Statistical Methods

This course emphasizes understanding and application of statistical methods common in psychological science (e.g., central tendency, dispersion, t-tests, correlation, ANOVA, chi-square, etc.). Students will learn to calculate statistics by hand and by using statistical software (e.g., SPSS, PSPP, R, etc.). It is recommended that students earn a grade of C or better in PSYC 101

III. Catalog Course Description

This course emphasizes understanding and application of statistical methods common in psychological science (e.g., central tendency, dispersion, t-tests, correlation, ANOVA, chi-square, etc.). Students will learn to calculate statistics by hand and by using statistical software (e.g., SPSS, PSPP, R, etc.). It is recommended that students earn a grade of C or better in PSYC 101

  • Calculate each statistic (in Course Content below) by hand,
  • Calculate each statistic (in Course Content below) by computer (viz., SPSS), and
  • Interpret each statistical conclusion.
