This course is a co-requisite of Music Theory 1. It emphasizes aural and keyboard training in scales, rhythms, and intervals. It includes sight-singing using solfege, harmonic and melodic dictation.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Write rhythms in simple meter with note values equal to the beat and divisions of the beat
- Listen to and write about short contextual listening examples
- Read rhythms in simple meter containing divisions of the beat at sight
- Write simple melodies using tonic and dominant 7th harmonies in all major keys
- Write simple melodies in major keys after 4 hearings
- Sing all intervals of the major scale
- Sing short melodies using tonic and dominant 7th harmonies in all major keys
- Detect and identify errors in pitch and rhythm in short listening examples
