This course includes observation, intentional curriculum design with using developmentally appropriate teaching strategies and evaluation. This course requires Idaho Health and Welfare enhanced background check and pediatric first aid/CPR.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Explain the connection between assessment and intentional curriculum design.
  • Understand how to use children’s interests, inquiry, and appropriate early learning standards to develop meaningful curriculum.
  • Build understanding of content knowledge in language and literacy, creative arts, social and emotional development, mathematics, science, physical development, and social studies.
  • Build a broad repertoire of developmentally appropriate teaching strategies in early childhood and special education.
  • Explain the principles of emergent curriculum.
  • Describe the value of nature-based education for young children.
  • Explain the major concepts of classroom management strategies in early childhood and special education.

Assessment Strategy Narrative

A variety of formative and summative assessments will be used to assess the student learning outcomes for this course. Additionally, at the end of the program, students will complete a National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) exam in the area of Early Childhood Education to meet program learning outcomes.
