This course offers an introductory overview of the possible causes and consequences of growing old from a biological, psychological, and social perspective. Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

• Understand the major demographics of contemporary populations. .
• Understand how factors of biology, psychological and social constructs interact to support healthy aging.
• Identify lifestyle choices that affect (both positive and negative) the quality and longevity of life.
• Understand age-related issues, and ageism

V. Topical Outline (Course Content)

Provide students with an overview of healthy aging through a variety of assignments and activities. Provide students real world knowledge through service learning projects and interview assignments.

Conduct and report on a lifestyle interview with a healthy elderly person Participate in an inter-generational service learning project. Discuss several pertinent, and some controversial aging issues. Conduct and report on a professional interview. Demonstrate written proficiency in relevant aspects of healthy aging.
