III. Catalog Course Description

This course includes the study of the Central Service and Materials Management Departments. Special emphasis is placed on cleaning and decontamination of equipment, disinfection of instruments and equipment, and the different methods of sterilization as well as sterile packaging of reusable and disposables and storage of hospital an sterile items.

  • Discuss and describe the storage of sterile and non-sterile equipment and instrumentation
  • Understand the role of central service department in the hospital
  • Discuss and describe the job duties of a central service technologist

  • Understand the environmental hazards associated with working in the central sterile processing environment
  • Understand how to clean and decontaminate equipment of patient and hospital use
