III. Catalog Course Description

This course includes theory of designing curriculum in various environments, advocacy for children and families, and adapting lesson plans for special needs children. This course requires Idaho Health and Welfare enhanced background check, pediatric first aid/CPR, TB, and immunization clearance. 

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Explain concepts of using the indoor or outdoor environments to promote curiosity, confidence, and positive social relationships.
  • Explain authentic assessment for preschool children.
  • Explain the need for teachers and parents to advocate for the welfare of all children.
  • Explain the interactions of self-care, self-reflection, and the impact on children in the classroom.

Advocacy for Parents and Teachers, Physical Development Curriculum, Sensory Learning Curriculum, Science and Technology Curriculum, Assessment of Children, and Creative Arts Curriculum.

A variety of formative and summative assessments will be used to assess the student learning outcomes for this course. Additionally, at the end of the program, students will complete a National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) exam in the area of Early Childhood Education to meet program learning outcomes.
