III. Catalog Course Description

This course includes observations, head teaching days, guiding children's behavior in large and small groups in the teaching Labs or instructor permission for offsite cohort. This course requires Idaho Health and Welfare enhanced background check, pediatric first aid/CPR, TB, and immunization clearance. 

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Document and incorporate children’s interests (curiosity) in learning relationships and preparing environments through weekly small group lesson plans.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of intentional teaching by including developmental milestones with interests through lesson planning.
  • Document objective observations and write family chats to build relationships with child and families.
  • Document children’s emotional/social interactions in weekly written anecdotes and identify supportive teaching strategies.
  • Demonstrate positive interactions and teaching strategies with children, teaching team and families.
  • Demonstrate self-reflection strategies and self-care concepts during lab reflective group meetings at the end of the lab day.
  • Demonstrates ethical standards in reviewing children’s family records, communication with families, and teaching team.

Assessment Strategy Narrative

A variety of formative and summative assessments will be used to assess the student learning outcomes for this course. Additionally, at the end of the program, students will complete a National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) exam in the area of Early Childhood Education to meet program learning outcomes.
