SOC-310 Community Corrections

This course provides a detailed survey of U.S. community corrections systems, in which persons serve all or part of their sentences in the community under a pre-trial, probation, or parole officer's supervision. In addition to more general discussions of the nature of community corrections, students will learn about specialized gang ("Security Threat Group"), sex offender, and domestic violence caseloads, as well as diversion (DUI, Drug, Mental Health, and Veteran's Court) and treatment programs. Students will also engage contemporary debates on subjects like actuarial risk assessment and arming community corrections officers.
