MAT-398 Course Assistant for Algebra, Probability, Functions & Trig

This practicum is unique to the pre-service mathematics teachers' content understanding and skills teaching mathematics prior to student teaching, through a professional experience directly involved with the MAPS and Education Departments. The course is a collaborative venture among the college student, college peers, and a college instructor. Pre-service teachers will work with college peers enrolled in self-paced preparatory mathematics classes to

  • develop understanding of how math learners grow and develop
  • demonstrate understanding of the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of college preparatory mathematics
  • develop skills necessary to make college preparatory mathematics accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content
  • develop and apply a variety of instructional strategies to encourage deep understanding of college preparatory mathematics

Pre-service teachers will complete and discuss Instructional Strategies logs with members of the Education Department.
