COM-370 Topics in Identity and Power

We forge our identities in and through culturally emplaced communication. In this course, students will explore connections between communication and identity as it develops, changes, and is affected by cultural differences. During this course, students can expect to be introduced to theories emerging out of different communication sub-fields, like interpersonal, intercultural, critical rhetoric, environmental communication, and/or critical/cultural studies, as they relate to a specific identity-based concept, like gender, sexuality, race, class, religion, and/or political affiliation. Course topics will be based on the current research interests of the professor, and will delve into the intersections of culture, power, language, and identity. This course is repeatable.
