HIS-351 History of Science
An introduction to the history of science from
antiquity to the present, with particular
emphasis on the development following the
seventeenth-century Scientific Revolution of what
has come to be called "science" in the Western
tradition. Topics will range from the physical
sciences to natural history, conservation, the
"mind" sciences, and medicine and will include
theoretical approaches to constructing knowledge
from empiricism, induction, positivism, and
falisifiability, to social constructionism, and
other related themes.
