Legal Psychology Minor

The legal psychology minor is designed to give students experience in psychology and related fields that has direct relevance to the legal system. Students will learn about both extant and possible interactions between social science and the law from a variety of perspectives, as appropriate for a liberal arts minor.

Legal Psychology Minor

Required 15 credits minimum:

PSY-100	General Psychology	3 credits
PSY-203	Cognitive Psychology	3 credits
PSY-407	Legal Psychology	3 credits

Pick TWO additional courses from the following:

PSY-112	Introduction to Psychological Science	3 credits
PSY-404	Abnormal Psychology	3 credits
POE-300	Constitutional Law I	3 credits

Another course with legal content or relevant applications or may also fulfill this requirement with permission from minor coordinator.

Total Credit Hours: 15

Outcomes

 

Upon successful completion of this minor, students will be able to:

1) Describe key concepts and themes of psychology and related fields, as applied to the legal system;
2) Engage in scientific inquiry and critical thinking;
3) Demonstrate effective communication skills in legal psychology;
4) Practice ethical and social responsibility to evaluate psychological phenomena in a diverse world; and
5) Develop teamwork and project management skills relevant to a career path in legal psychology.
