Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this minor, students will be able to:


1) Demonstrate knowledge and use of print and non-print texts, media texts, classic texts and contemporary texts, including young adult—that represent a range of world literatures, historical traditions, genres, and the experiences of different genders, ethnicities, and social classes;
2) Use literary theories to interpret and critique a range of texts;
3) Demonstrate knowledge and use the conventions of English language as they relate to various rhetorical situations and they apply the concept of dialect and relevant grammar systems;
4) Demonstrate knowledge and compose a range of formal and informal texts, including consideration of the interrelationship among form, audience, context, and purpose; and
5) Understand that writing involves strategic and recursive processes across multiple stages (e.g., planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing).
