Pre-Law Specialization

PSE PEAK

The Pre-Law Specialization is meant to create a foundation in preparation for a successful career in law. Through this specialization, students are introduced to the American political system, precedent-setting Supreme Court cases, and philosophical/ethical frameworks for judging legal questions.

15 credits (Total does not include prerequisite courses)

Specialization Requirements

Complete one course (3 credits) from the following:

POE-241Introduction to Public Policy

3 credits
POE-250Introduction to Political Philosophy

3 credits
POE-255Introduction to Political Philosophy Through Plato

3 credits

Complete one course (3 credits) from the following:

ENG-200-Level Introduction to Literary Studies Courses

3 credits
ENG-300-Level Literature Seminar

3 credits

*Any 200- or 300-level ENG course excluding ENG-280, ENG-245, ENG-246, ENG-247, ENG-345, ENG-346, and ENG-347.

Complete one course (3 credits) from the following:

There are multiple pathways to law school. No particular major is recommended. Indeed law schools accept students who have majored in everything from Music to Environmental Studies. Regardless of the major, students would benefit from courses in several disciplines not required for the minor including: International Relations, History, Sociology, and Environmental Studies.
