COM-211 Advanced Techniques in Journalism

In this course, students will explore the role of both editor and writer through focused readings, hands-on writing, as well as self and peer editing. In addition to these advanced elements of the craft of mass communication practice, students will engage with the rapid changes occurring in nonfiction reporting for broad, public audiences because of the rise of digital media like podcasts, blogs, and online magazines. Finally, students will be asked to analyze and engage with the growth of creative nonfiction, the role of social media, and traditional on-the-street approaches to the craft.
