Welcome from the Vice President for Academic Affairs
Welcome to the Catalog for the 2017-18 Academic Year
Since 1891, when The College of Idaho opened its doors, this institution has aimed high. Our graduates have attained great things—distinguished academic achievements, successful careers, and, most important, productive and fulfilling lives. Your entry into the College connects you to this illustrious history. This catalog, then, lays out aspirational goals for students—to become leaders, to find meaning and purpose through education, to become lifelong learners—in addition to outlining the curriculum and policies that will lead to degrees.
The aspirations of our founders translate today into three core themes of the College. First, we hope you will learn through an innovative, transformative curriculum—PEAK—that seeks to help you find your own pathway through challenging programs with far-reaching outcomes: Professional, Ethical, Articulate, and Knowledgeable graduates. Second, learning takes place in community. Throughout your time at the College, we'll talk a lot about what it means to be a responsible member of the community, showing respect and concern for your fellow learners; a resourceful member of the community, creative, innovative, and hard-working; and a reflective member of the community, capable of understanding your own thoughts and actions and those of others. Finally, this College believes in being good stewards of our environment, our people, and our resources—thinking deeply about the place in which we live and learn, planning carefully for generations who will follow.
This catalog serves as an important guidebook for the adventures ahead. Like most good guides, it will require careful reading but also people—classmates, faculty, staff—to help you understand the nuances and opportunities contained therein.
Best wishes for an exciting PEAK adventure at The College of Idaho. Make it meaningful!
