MEE 7637 Integrated Methods for Teaching Elementary Mathematics

Students are exposed to mathematics learning strategies and the methods and strategies for teaching mathematics. Students have the opportunity to analyze programs and learning materials as they set up environments and situations that stimulate interest in learning mathematics. Opportunities to demonstrate and apply understandings of major mathematics concepts, algorithms, procedures, applications, and mathematical practices in varied contexts, and connections within and among mathematical domains will be a major focus of this course. A major emphasis focuses on how students can attend to the connection between the mathematical practices and mathematics content within mathematics instruction. Instructional topics will include counting and cardinality, operations and algebraic thinking, numbers, and operations in base ten, measurement and data, geometry, and fractions.
