Program in Data Science
The Data Science (DS) major at Simmons University prepares students to lead in a rapidly evolving technological landscape shaped by artificial intelligence and machine learning. Data science sits at the intersection of computer science, statistics, and domain expertise—providing the tools to develop intelligent systems, uncover patterns in complex data, and drive innovation across industries.
Machine learning, Large Language Models and other AI algorithms are transforming the way we interact with the world: from personalized recommendations and predictive healthcare to natural language processing and autonomous systems. Understanding how to build, train, and evaluate these models is central to the DS curriculum.
At Simmons, students gain a solid foundation in programming, statistical modeling, and data analysis, while exploring advanced topics such as supervised and unsupervised learning, algorithmic decision-making, and ethical implications of AI. The program emphasizes hands-on experience through applied coursework and a capstone course project, where students tackle real-world problems using state-of-the-art techniques.
With its interdisciplinary approach and focus on emerging technologies, the DS major prepares students for impactful careers in tech, healthcare, finance, research, and beyond—or for graduate study in data science, machine learning, or artificial intelligence.
