HUS193 Peer Recovery Specialist Practicum
The Peer Recovery Specialist course (HUS193) is limited to students enrolled in the Peer Recovery Specialist Certificate Program. The 150 hour field experience and the 30 hour classroom time focus on learning how to engage, support, and mentor those seeking recovery from behavioral health disorders. It is associated with the Department of Mental Health and employs a varied amount of environments, modalities, and programs to provide students with hands-on experience along with professional supervision Classroom theory is integrated into the practicum experience where students demonstrate competencies based upon the standards of care developed by the Department of Mental Health. The task of the Peer Recovery Specialist is to shift mental health from staff driven to a "person-driven recovery support model." PLEASE NOTE: CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) and /or SORI (Sex Offender Record Information) and / or CHRI (Criminal History Record Information) checks are required prior to participation in this course.
