Community Health Worker - Evening Program Certificate

Courses and Requirements

The Community Health Worker Certificate includes classroom theory and field work to prepare you for health education activities, including providing health care referrals, collecting statistics, and coordinating care as needed for clients.

Students who attend the Community Health Worker evening program through iHealth@NECC will complete most of their coursework online and come to the Lawrence Campus one or two evenings per week for in-class meetings.

The program outlines course work in general education and community health courses. Graduates from this program will demonstrate core competencies of communication, health education, care coordination, community assessment, and professional skills and conduct.

Students must earn a minimum grade of C in all required courses in order to graduate. A minimum of 27-credit hours are required for the certificate.

CPR

Students are required to be CPR certified at the Health Care Provider/Professional Rescuer level prior to the start of CHW190 Community Health Worker Practicum.

Drug Screening

Students enrolled in this academic program may be required to pass a drug screening analysis.

Student Professional Liability Insurance

Students are required to carry professional liability insurance. The premium is to be paid at the time of course registration.

CORI/CHRI/SORI

Students interested in participating in this program may be required to undergo a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, a Criminal Records Central Repository (CHRI) check, and/or a Sex Offender Record Information (SORI) check.
