HIST 2510 AFRICAN HISTORY SINCE 1885

Introduction to the colonial and postcolonial eras, emphasizing the imposition of structures of alien dominance and the creation of strategies of African resistance. Both hopeful and tragic scenarios in recent history are considered. Particular attention is given to the exploitation of women and children by colonial and postcolonial regimes and the problem of attaining meaningful personal liberation in the family setting. Uses reading, lecture, video, role-playing and group discussion to clarify the discussion to clarify the dilemmas of, and define the choices available to the continental community today.
