FSC 3700 INTRODUCTION TO FORENSIC TOXICOLOGY

This course will introduce the field of forensic toxicology and its potential in legal investigations. It will then discuss concepts that are essential to the understanding of forensic toxicology, such as pharmacokinetics and metabolism. Emphasis will be placed on drugs of abuse, role of drugs in sexual assaults, DUI and drug-related offenses, and postmortem toxicology. Analytical techniques employed in the field of forensic toxicology will also be discussed: sample preparation, immunoassay, spectroscopy, mass spectrometry (MS), analytical separation,  high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), capillary electrophoresis and QA/QC.
