DPT 6160 PHYSICAL THERAPY MANAGEMENT OF THE CARDIOPULMONARY SYSTEM

This course provides an integrated approach of the study of physiologic, anatomic, pathologic, medical, and therapeutic concepts related to entry-level cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy practice. The course content covers a spectrum of acute to chronic long-term conditions. Content is presented in logical sequence beginning with a review of normal cardiovascular and pulmonary responses to exercise across the lifespan, progressing to the management of a stable patient with a chronic condition, and ending with the more unstable patient with complex and often multiple disorders. Both primary and secondary cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary conditions are presented to aid students in effectively integrating course concepts with every patient, not just those with primary disease. Finally, evidence-based patient/client management is integrated into clinical decision-making in the context of the physical therapy examination, evaluation, patient care program development, intervention, and progression
