Program Description:

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is a 120-credit upper division program open to Registered Nurses. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN*). Admission to the major is based on GPA and evidence of a valid NJ Registered Nurse license. Students enrolled at schools where Kean University has an articulation agreement may be admitted as non-matriculated students to take specific courses (12 CREDITS ONLY--NURS 3000, NURS 3015, NURS 3020, NURS 3030). They may apply for the BSN major once they have graduated and have a valid NJ Registered Nurses (RN) license.

The B.S.N. prepares Registered Nurses to enter professional practice and to assume new and changing roles in a variety of clinical settings. The upper division curriculum includes advanced course work in theoretical and conceptual frameworks from professional nursing and related disciplines, concepts related to evidence based research and practice, quality management and leadership. The objective is to prepare a professional who uses evidence as the basis for nursing practice and is capable of providing leadership is implementing and maintaining high quality standards of practice. The program schedule is designed to accommodate the special needs of the practicing Registered Nurse. The curriculum includes 4 clinical nursing courses and attendance at all clinical sessions is required.

RN-BSN Admissions Requirements: 

Full Admission to the RN-BSN program requires graduation from an accredited RN program and a current valid RN license in the State of New Jersey.

Provisional Admissions to the RN-BSN program is open to nursing students in the final year of their RN program or recent nursing graduates who are awaiting RN licensure. Students are admitted as INTENDED majors and are permitted to take general education required classes, any additional required courses outside of nursing, as well as the following 4 non-clinical nursing courses prior to declaring as RN-BSN major: NURS 3000, NURS 3015, NURS 3020 and NURS 3030. Students admitted as INTENDED into the RN-BSN program will have one year from the date of Admission to obtain RN licensure. Failure to obtain RN Licensure within the allotted time, will result in dismissal from the program.

Degree Requirements:

Degree Requirements: The following are the degree requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Prerequisites for admission to the Nursing major are indicated.  Transcripts are evaluated and credit toward the degree is granted for college level courses that are in compliance with Kean University policy for transfer credit. In addition, 30 lower division Nursing credits are transferred upon admission to the University based on an active NJ RN License. There are 2  clinical nursing courses in the upper division curriculum (NURS 4020 and NURS 4400). Attendance at all clinical sessions is required.
