PSYD 7411 HUMAN EXCEPTIONALITIES: SOCIAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL AND EDUCATIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

A comprehensive examination of current knowledge and research on individuals with disabilities within the context of human growth and development across the lifespan. Content includes historical factors, legislation, etiology, characteristics, needs, multidisciplinary approaches, best practices in social, psychological and educational strategies, including existing and emerging technologies, assessment, response to intervention (RTI), and support services for individuals with disabilities ranging from mild, moderate, to severe levels of varying disabilities. The course will study the impact of disabilities on academic, social and emotional functioning, and contain a unit on writing, developing, and updating Individualized Education Plans (IEP). Coverage of issues relating to linguistic and cultural diversity.
