Examines the persecution and murder of the Jews and other victims, beginning with Germany's invasion of Poland, Western Europe, and the Soviet Union. Analyzes the incarceration of Jews in ghettos, deportations to death camps, the death marches near the end of the war, and liberation. Additional examination of victims' life and death under Nazism, resistance and its effectiveness and the interrelationships among perpetrators, bystanders and rescuers.
