DSN 4000 CRITICAL PERSPECTIVES IN DESIGN

Seminar on contemporary topics in design. Emphasis upon theory and critical analysis as they apply to design. Design viewed in the broad context of cultural, technological and intellectual conditions that define modern and post-modern thought. Students will evaluate their personal design point of view and gain a critical understanding of the greater design landscape today. Topics to be covered will include Non-Western Design, sustainability, socially responsible design, temporary vs. permanent design and intention reinvention. An emphasis will be placed upon the need for interdisciplinary thinking and creative problem solving. Prerequisite: Six credits of Art and/or Design History. Capstone requirement in all BFA and BID majors in the Department of Design. Revised: Fall 2015
