Additional certification requirements:
Students will be eligible to sit for the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Certified Health Education Specialist examination

Admissions Requirements:
Applicants who satisfy freshman or transfer requirements for admission to the University, along with a minimum GPA of 2.5, may declare their major as a BSCHE. If an interested student’s GPA is below 2.5, then the student may intend to declare this major until their GPA is at a minimum of 2.5.

Declaration Requirements:

  • Meet with a Health faculty member to discuss your interest in the major and your past and current course load

  • Provide a copy of unofficial transcript from every college and university attended

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5

  • A grade of C or higher in ENG 1030 (College Composition) or equivalent

Graduation Requirements:

  • 120 semester hours

  • GPA of 2.5 or higher are required to graduate from the BSCHE Program 

  • The BSCHE includes 66 semester hours of courses, with a grade of C or higher

  • Complete a 100 hour practicum and 400 hour internship

Additional Required Courses:

  • 19 hours in specific courses in Biology, Psychology and Sociology

Program Description:
Community health is branch of Public Health. Community Health professionals promote, maintains, and improves individual and community health by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors.

While the role of the community health educator is broad, the program at Kean utilizes the vast array of Kean University resources to ensure that students are prepared for real world experiences. The coursework and corresponding practical experiences will prepare our students with the necessary knowledge and skills to promote health and wellness in both individuals and the community.

At the conclusion of this program students will be prepared to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) examination.
