This course introduces evidence-based knowledge of leadership and management theories and concepts to prepare professional nurses to function across a variety of health care settings. Emphasis will be on nursing leadership accountability and influences in organizational structure, quality improvement, patient outcomes, staff supervision, and facility and patient safety.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Explore the history of nursing and the impact history in nursing plays in today’s healthcare.
  • Review case studies and identify ways to prevent drug diversion protecting self and others.
  • Develop a professional resume and review interview processes to obtain employment as a nurse.
  • Identify legal and ethical aspects of nursing that protect patients, coworkers, and self when encountering adverse behavior in the healthcare setting.
  • Explore evidence-based articles that support optimal patient care.
  • Participate in a quality assurance project to support optimal care and performance in a healthcare facility.
