This course focuses on human diseases that are frequently first diagnosed or treated in the medical office or clinic setting. The course provides an overview of the disease process and is organized by a systems approach. It provides a description of diseases, etiology, signs and symptoms, diagnostic procedures, treatment, and prevention.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Identify structural organization of the human body
- Identify body systems
- Identify: a. body planes b. directional terms c. quadrants d. body cavities
- Identify major organs in each body system
- Identify the anatomical location of major organs in each body system
- Identify the normal function of each body system
- Identify common pathology related to each body system including: a. signs b. symptoms c. etiology d. diagnostic measures e. treatment modalities
- Identify the following related to body systems: a. medical terms b. abbreviations
- Prepare medical assistants who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession." As outlined for accredited programs by the Medical Assisting Education Review Board.
