III. Catalog Course Description

This course examines the impacts of special events, conceptualizes the event, and the economic impact of special events. The strategic cycle, planning functions, marketing of events, sponsorship, life cycle, control, budget and the logistics of event planning are presented.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Students will be able to describe the differences between corporate, conference center, social, and business catering.
  • Describe the various types of meeting facilities.
  • Describe trends in the meetings industry.
  • Distinguish sales from marketing and describe the “Four P’s“ of marketing.
  • Explain profit margins of restaurants and catering.
  • Describe and discuss the guestroom management process for meetings and conventions.
  • Prepare a BEO
  • Discuss the different types of room setup for events and meetings.
  • Describe the importance tourism dollars play in our communities.
  • Discuss master folios, direct bill procedures, time of payment, gratuities, and service charges.
