This course is a stand-alone Detention Academy. This six-week academy gives students the skills and knowledge necessary to obtain their POST detention certification.
Students may only earn credit for either LAWE 204 or LAWE 205. Students may not earn credit for both.

This course is a stand-alone Detention Academy. This six-week academy gives students the skills and knowledge necessary to obtain their POST detention certification.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Describe detention safety issues.
- Explain Idaho Jail Standards and demonstrate proper fire safety equipment usage.
- Understand Idaho law and liability regarding inmate safety.
- Understand deputy survival regarding con games.
- Demonstrate integrity and ethical decision making
- Understand the dynamics related to hostage survival.
- Define the reasons and how to perform a proper cell search
- Understand the importance of how to keep Idaho jails in compliance with Idaho Jail Standards.
- Describe the restraint, transport and pat down techniques.
- Explain the medical/legal aspects of jails.
- Understand the constitutional provisions, statues relating to the legal meaning of arrest and the issues related to warrant service.
- Define inmate classification and the objective classification system.
- Understand the dynamics related to hostage survival
- Define the reasons and how to perform a proper cell search

Assessment Strategy Narrative
Written assessments will be given at the end of each training section. The written assessments and weekly oral assessments (given via Kahoot) make up the final letter grade for the course.
