WELD 238 Pipe Welding*
This course is designed to teach the student techniques necessary to weld pipe in all four positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead). This course utilizes a lecture/lab format which includes classroom discussion and lab demonstrations. Students will develop knowledge and manipulative skills in the use of E6010 and E7018 electrodes to weld pipe. Topics covered will include electrode nomenclature, equipment, and operation, set up, and shut down procedures. Instruction includes theory of pipe welding, machine setting, and welding polarities. AWS Pipe welding qualification must be obtained to receive passing grade

IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Identify and explain the set up and use of SMAW/GTAW equipment
- Preform acceptable welds in SMAW/GTAW as per ASME B31.1 and B31.3 in various positions
- Construct projects in the proper sequence
- Apply fundamental print reading, measurement and layout/fit-up techniques
- Identify and explain weld imperfections and their causes
- Apply proper layout and fit-up techniques
- Apply all shop and OSHA safety rules
- Obtain an AWS qualification
- Weld pipe in all positions
- Have a better understanding of P&ID
