III. Catalog Course Description

This course provides an introduction to information technology in libraries. The course focuses on applications for libraries, and it includes use, operation, and management of computer, audiovisual, communication, and print equipment; the criteria for selection of software and hardware; evaluation of library technology; legal and safety aspects.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Search and retrieve information from a variety of online databases, electronic journals/magazines/newspapers, e-books, and downloadable digital audiobooks
  • Understand the implications of social networking in relationship to libraries.
  • Use a variety of hardware, software, applications, and systems related to the library and information services field and gain an understanding of how to determine what types of technology is needed in specific libraries.
