The Accounting/Bookkeeping program is a technical program which results in an Associate of Applied Science degree. The program provides students with a basic knowledge of bookkeeping processes preparing them for employment in entry level bookkeeping positions. Major emphasis is placed on computerized bookkeeping using QuickBooks Pro.

Students will take a national exam to obtain a Certified Bookkeeping credential during the final semester of the program. This is a non-transfer degree and is not intended for students planning to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or intending to become a Certified Public Accountant.

Students interested in these transfer options should pursue an Associate of Arts Degree in Business.

Upon successful completion of the Accounting/Bookkeeping program, a student will be able to:

  1. Complete the entire accounting cycle to prepare an accurate set of financial statements from source documents. 
  2. Accurately prepare a basic individual tax return from source documents.
  3. Analyze, calculate and prepare all aspects of payroll including gross pay, net pay, and all required payroll reports.
  4. Proficiently use an electronic accounting software.
  5. Prepare to write and speak professionally.
  6. Develop skill and proficiency using the latest Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Access.
  7. Identify ethical issues associated with accounting and business situations.  Apply appropriate principles of ethics and civic responsibility.
