GEOL 126L Fundamentals of GIS Lab
This lab provides an in depth introduction to the fundamentals of Geographic information Systems (GIS) in conjunction with the Fundamentals of GIS class. The course will include an introduction to basic carographic principles including maps scales, coordinate systems and map projections. Study of the software-independent fundamenatals of GIS, introduction to Global Postioning Systems GPS, databases, and geospatial metadata. Practical application and hands-on experiecne with ESRI ArcGIS software. Exercises in clude building, editing, and querying a GIS, basic spatial analysis, digitizing, and producing catography (maps). Students will also use GPS receivers.
