IND-333 London: Art/History/Literature

A multidisciplinary study-away three-week immersion in the exciting city of London.  Students will be encouraged to see London’s historic layers and centuries-old environmental interaction while pondering their own impact as twenty-first visitors participating in the long tradition of educational travel.  Visits to art galleries and museums will invite students to reflect on the power of visual representation in comprehending place.  Tracing writers’ and their characters’ haunts while reflecting on the meanings of literary pilgrimages will prompt students both to appreciate literary creativity and to consider questions of authenticity and interpretation.  Through actively writing, sketching, and photographing, students will compose a portfolio demonstrating their self-aware, receptive, and imaginative engagement with London. Finally, students will develop the skills and confidence to become independent world travelers.
