Music Education (Precertification) Specialization

This specialization is designed for students desiring to be music educators. Students may qualify for certification as a music educator if they complete all of the following: the Music major, the Music Education specialization, the Education minor, and the fifth-year student teaching experience. Students interested in becoming certified educators should contact the Education department about all requirements related to certification, including admission to the Teacher Education program.

Applied Lessons and Concert Attendance

An additional 2 semesters of MUSAP are required beyond the 6 semesters required for the music major, for a total of 8 semesters and 4 credits of MUSAP courses.

An additional 2 semesters of MUS-001 are required beyond the 4 semesters required for the music major, for a total of 6 semesters and 0 credits of MUS-001.

6 credits of the music education courses count towards the elective category in the music major.
