The purpose of the Jim and Patsy Rose Library is to help fulfill the mission of the College by providing carefully selected resources and versatile programs and services which reinforce and enrich the curriculum, and which are responsive to the needs of the College community. The Rose Library is a multimedia facility designed to support the total educational program of the College and to enhance the teaching/learning experience for students, faculty, staff, and community patrons. The Rose Library contributes to the educational program of the College by collecting, making readily available, and assisting in the use of materials particularly suited to the objectives and programs of the College.
The local collection of approximately 18,000 items housed in the Rose Library includes the general collection; young adult, juvenile and children's books; reference books; and DVDs and other multi-media items. Access to these materials is provided through the CCLINC (Community College Libraries in North Carolina) catalog, a joint database of the holdings of 51 community college libraries in North Carolina. Rose Library patrons have access to this catalog from computers in the library and other locations on campus and off campus through the Rose Library’s website.
The Rose Library provides access, both on campus and from remote locations, to numerous online indexes and full-text databases, including various online resources made available through NC LIVE. These databases contain thousands of full-text journals for student and instructor research. In addition, the Rose Library subscribes to multiple sources of online graphic and video materials. The Rose Library participates in Dogwood Digital Consortium to access eBooks and audiobooks. To meet student needs, the College librarians provide research and bibliographic assistance, library instruction and reserve material services. Computerized interlibrary loan service is available to expedite the delivery of materials from other locations. Associates at the Library Support Desk and Helpdesk provide email, phone, text, and in-person technical assistance with computer and technology-related issues.
The Rose Library maintains computers with programs and software for student course support. Printing, copying, and scanning services are also available. The Rose Library contains student collaboration rooms with specialized audio-visual equipment.
