BIO 584 Advanced Conservation Genetics
Application of genetic data to conservation-related issues and ecological questions. Topics include small population size, population structure and gene flow, inbreeding, conservation breeding, and genetic identification and monitoring. Lab portion includes field sampling to collect and store biological samples, methods for extracting DNA from different sources, amplifying DNA, and analysis of genetic data from ongoing projects. The course will provide students with essential laboratory skills to conduct future genetic research or that are necessary for some career some positions in wildlife and conservation biology. Three hours of lecture and one, three-hour laboratory per week. This is a link course with BIO 484. No credit given for students with credit for BIO 484
