III. Catalog Course Description

This course provides both relevant instructional and clinical learning experiences for students in providing care for adults with complex medical/surgical health problems.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Provide nursing care that protects clients experiencing complex medical/surgical health problems and health care personnel.
  • Provide nursing care that protects clients experiencing complex medical/surgical health problems and health care personnel from environmental hazards.
  • Provide nursing care that incorporates the knowledge of expected growth and development principles, prevention and/or early detection of health problems, and strategies to achieve optimal health for clients experiencing complex medical/surgical health problems
  • Provide nursing care that promotes and supports the emotional, mental and social well-being of the client with complex medical/surgical health problems experiencing stressful events, as well as acute or chronic mental illness.
  • Provide nursing care that promotes physical health and wellness by providing comfort and assistance in the performance of the activities of daily living for clients with complex medical/surgical health problems.
  • Provide nursing care that promotes physical health and wellness related to the administration of medications and parenteral therapies for clients with complex medical/surgical health problems.
  • Provide nursing care that promotes physical health and wellness by reducing the development of complications or health problems related to existing conditions, treatments, or procedures for clients with complex medical/surgical health problems.
