EARC 155 Early Childhood Practicum*

This course includes observation, interaction, and assessment in preschool and toddler labs. Students are involved in lesson plan writing and head teacher responsibilities based on child observation and assessment. Each semester requires an increasing level of responsibility and competency. Admission to the program is required. Students are required to complete and pass a background check. This course must be repeated for a total of 12 credits for the AAS degree and 6 credits for the AA degree.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

Write objective observations of childrenÕs learning (1st semester)
Complete a High Scope Child Observation Record on a focus child. (2nd, 3rd, 4th semester)
Complete lesson plans for 4 teaching days from COR, under direction of lab facilitators, direct teaching team for each head teaching day.
Contribute reflective wrap up team meetings each lab session with increasing competence.
Document three family interactions for each focus child.
Prepare appropriate family activity for each focus child. (1st semester)
Arrange and lead a class field trip/or guest visit. (2nd, 3rd and 4th semester)
Complete COR assessment for one focus child (2nd, 3rd, 4th semester).
Complete a child portfolio to accompany COR . (2nd, 3rd, 4th semester)
Complete a family conference.
