Program Overview:
Anthropology is a diverse discipline that investigates the biological and cultural life of human beings at all times and in all places. The CSI Anthropology Program offers introductory course work in three of the four major sub-fields of anthropology including biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, and archaeology. Two of the four anthropology courses satisfy core requirements at CSI. By providing the necessary breadth in ethics, theory, and methods used in professional research, the curriculum of the Anthropology program is designed to provide a solid foundation in social science and the opportunity to achieve an Associate in Arts (AA) in Anthropology. An anthropology degree provides students with an appreciation of other ways of life, a bio-cultural approach to the human condition, a survey of genetics, different systems of belief and construction of knowledge, along with an introduction to the cultures, languages, and peoples of our globalizing world. Students considering professional careers in anthropology should, through transfer to a university, pursue baccalaureate or higher degrees after successful completion of the AA in Anthropology. However, an associate degree may support attempts to gain entry-level employment as lab technicians, research assistants, museum workers, cultural resource conservators, and other related positions.
