Acquaints students with various drugs/biologics used in veterinary medicine. Includes nomenclature, methods of administration, modes of action and elimination and dosage calculations.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

• Identify drug classifications, functions and describe how they are distributed and eliminated in the body.
• Calculate drug doses using proper weights, concentration and dosages.
• Identify procedures for reconstituting vaccines and proper routes of administrations of vaccines.
• Correctly handle, label and dispense both controlled and non-controlled drugs.
• Differentiate between prescription and over-the counter drugs.
• Safely handle, store and dispose of biologics, therapeutic agents, pesticides and hazardous wastes.
• Identify normal and abnormal responses to medications and biologics.
•  Complete AVMA Essential Skills: P1-13.
