This course emphasizes an individual program of personal vocal development for the theatre. Students learn vocal anatomy; relaxation techniques; and exercises for relaxation, breath control, resonance, energy, and vocal range. Techniques for characterization are explored. These skills will be applied to achieve an appreciation of the flexibility of the voice responding to language and imagery.

III. Catalog Course Description
This course emphasizes an individual program of personal vocal development for the theatre. Students learn vocal anatomy; relaxation techniques; and exercises for relaxation, breath control, resonance, energy, and vocal range. Techniques for characterization are explored. These skills will be applied to achieve an appreciation of the flexibility of the voice responding to language and imagery.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Students will survey the field of Vocal Production for the Theatre and will demonstrate proficiency by understanding terminology, methods, and practices; by working in a workshop environment in the classroom. Students will keep a journal through the semester which should include notes, articles, materials provided in class, evaluations, research materials, and progress reports. Journals will be submitted at the end of the semester.

Required Assignments
This course is designed to educate the student by exposing him/her to the field of Vocal Production for the Theatre and to provide the opportunity to examine, evaluate, retain, and utilize information in the content area. Attendance will be evaluated to insure that each student has equal opportunity to access the information presented in the class. To evaluate the success of the instruction and the performance of the student, students are required to participate in the workshop format of the class will be evaluated by the instructor and by peers at the beginning, throughout, and at the end of the semester. Assignments will be completed when scheduled. Students will participate in class discussions, present materials orally, and successfully complete the course objectives. The class is primarily a performance and production course.
Required Exams
Students will prepare and audio/video record a vocal portfolio demonstrating development and progress throughout the semester.
