III. Catalog Course Description

This course covers the basic concepts, principles, and processes in sociology. It is an introduction to material relating to culture, social interaction, institutions, and social change.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

• Identify and understand the basic components of the sociological perspective and understand the major sociological theories
• Understand the impact of culture on human behavior and understand the interdependence of the world’s nations and peoples
• Understand how the individual is shaped by nature and nurture
• Understand how status – such as age, gender, class, race/ethnicity, etc. – impacts life chances, practices, and attitudes
• Understand the relationship between social institutions and individuals
• Learn and develop soft skills related to future occupation
