Plant Propagation introduces students to the many methods of reproducing plants both sexually and asexually through lecture, demonstration and hands-on lab work. Students learn how to successfully grow new plants from plant parts as well as leaf tissue, stem tissue and seed embryos.

III. Catalog Course Description

Plant Propagation introduces students to the many methods of reproducing plants both sexually and asexually through lecture, demonstration and hands-on lab work. Students learn how to successfully grow new plants from plant parts as well as leaf tissue, stem tissue and seed embryos.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate different types of grafting and budding techniques and describe their uses.
  • Propagate an herbaceous plant from stem and leaf cuttings.
  • Propagate a plant from seed.
  • Demonstrate aseptic micro propagation techniques and discuss the process.
  • Explain environmental factors necessary for propagation success.
  • Identify proper tools needed and plant parts relevant to each propagation process.
